CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Blue
SERIES: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
CANON POINT: End of volume 4
LOSS: Her ability to have sex. It's how she earns a living and what she was programmed to do, not being able to perform kind of goes against everything she was created to be. Without it, she'll have to find a new purpose in life, one of her own choosing. She'll still be able to cuddle and hug and kiss, but anything past foreplay? Forget about it. She'll just freeze up and possibly even temporarily shut down.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Blue can't really remember anything beyond the day she met Red in an alley in the slums of Battery City, also known as the Lobby. She was curled up next to a dumpster with no idea who she was, and then Red appeared. Red told her to take her hand and said that everything would be okay. And it was! Well, as okay as you could get living in a downtrodden robot ghetto, working as a pornodroid on streets covered with wasted robot parts and outdated models just waiting to be scrapped. But then Red got sick. Her battery stopped charging little by little until it wouldn't hold a charge at all.
Despite being completely inorganic, Blue is all heart. She always put herself second as it was, but when Red got sick she barely even gave a thought to her own well-being. Everything she did from then on was for Red. She'd go out and work double-time just to earn enough to get plus, a battery-life-extending aid for robots, to bring home to Red just to keep her going. She even went multiple times to apply for a brand new battery for Red because the other droid was too sick to leave the house. Unfortunately, the shady bureaucrats down at social services were never happy with her paperwork. After getting the run around for far too long they declined her application and informed her that the 'obsolete entity' would be removed from the city and re-purposed. Blue had inadvertently doomed the love of her life. That's what does it. That's what makes her snap. She can only take so much abuse before she decides to fight back. Blue is the epitome of desperate times call for desperate measures.
Before the incident at social services, we see traces of Blue's sass with a client. She can be firm when need be and can even get snippy, but she never once tried to rise above the rules and regulations laid down by the city until those regulations threatened Red's already-short life. She breaks rules, breaks glass, steals the plus and rises up against her oppressors because she has had enough. She's done being kicked around and knocked down just for trying to do the right thing. All that matters is being with Red on their own terms. She's loyal almost to a fault and well-meaning with a side of naivety. She's apologetic and way too hard on herself, but she just wants to please. She wants to make everything okay for the people she cares about and is always putting their happiness before her own.
Blue is quick and resourceful. We see her manage to evade the scarecrows sent by Bli to stop them from leaving the city with Red in tow. She fights for her, she even kills for her. But she also feels remorse. Really, she's got nothing against humanity! It's the city she hates. She just wants to be free. Violence becomes necessary for her, but it's not something she enjoys. Blue is a lover, not a fighter. In fact, her model-type is known for being loving! Bluebots generate the most income.
Apart from Red, Blue is very introspective. She keeps to herself when not working and seems almost cautious about other people. When she speaks, she tends to cut herself off and occasionally stutters nervously. She's more anxious, more unsure of herself, but she can act tough if the situation calls for it. When she has a cause to fight for, she is determined as all heck and gains a confidence she doesn't usually possess. She's not scared to walk the streets alone. The only thing she's scared of is losing the people she loves.
ABILITIES: She's a droid! She runs on batteries and doesn't have to sleep or eat to stay alive. She's a pretty decent shot with a laser gun and ... that's about it. She was created for sex, not for combat! Despite being a robot, she's pretty average.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: Blue hit the lights as she headed out of the apartment, leaving a powered-down Red in her chair by the window still illuminated by those city lights. Like a night light. One last look and she's out the door, locking it behind her and letting that sinking feeling take root deep in the pit of her CPU. Down the hall and into the elevator. Blue sighs as she hits the button for the lobby. She hates leaving Red, but it has to be done. It's her job. It's all they've got.
Broken bots litter the streets, some still active and clinging to existence on filthy street corners under flickering lamps. Blue looks away. It's all she can do. You can't save everyone, can't even save herself, but maybe, just maybe, she can save Red. It would all be worth it then. Tomorrow... she'd try again tomorrow. Submit all the paperwork and hope. Pray to Destroya and wish for blissful oblivion. Tonight she has to work.
It's the scarecrows she's after. Human patrols, guarding the city. Keeping the peace, keeping order. All they do is keep the people down and keep the droids even lower. But she has no choice. They have the carbons and she needs the plus.
Pulling her jacket more tightly around her shoulders, she walks down the street. Heels click along the pavement until something catches her eye... a poster on the wall. It's old. Very old. The paper is torn and worn and yellowing. By the looks of the peeling banner over-top, it had been covered for sometime now. She's seen this before... years ago.
Blue peers at the wall and moves closer. Wanted. Four big, red X's cover their faces. The Killjoys. She reaches out to touch the face of the one in the top, right-hand corner. A picture of his mask hangs on their wall back home. It's a symbol of hope. Was-- no, still is. They may be gone, but there is still hope. There's always hope.
With a smile on her face, she turns away and keeps walking. Everything will look brighter tomorrow.

INTENT: I've been in love with the Danger Days universe for quite some time, and all the hype surrounding the comic had me hoping and wishing for a character like Blue. The fact that she's a robot that loves so deeply is what really drew me to her. I can't wait to see her interact with other characters in a new setting just to see how she'd adapt and grow. She has so much potential, especially with the loss, I'm so excited to be able to play her somewhere where survival isn't her only focus and she can grow as an individual away from Red.
